Trend of coconut production in Kerala

The data from 1955–56 to 2021–22 show clear phases in agricultural area and production trends. From the 1950s to early 1970s, cultivated area and production steadily increased, with area expanding from about 448,000 hectares to over 730,000 hectares and production rising above 4,000 million units. After fluctuations in the late 1970s and 1980s, a strong growth period occurred from the late 1980s to mid-2000s, when production crossed 6,000 million units and area peaked at over 900,000 hectares. However, after 2005–06, cultivated area gradually declined to around 760,000 hectares, while production showed variability, dipping around 2019–20 before recovering to 5,535 million units in 2021–22. Overall, the trend suggests reduced cultivated land in recent years, but relatively stable output supported by productivity improvements and periodic recoveries.
