About This Data
The major deficit indicators of the state from 2013–14 to 2025–26 show fluctuations in fiscal performance along with a steady increase in GSDP. Revenue deficit remained relatively high during the initial years, rising from ₹11,308.55 crore in 2013–14 to ₹16,928.21 crore in 2017–18, but declined gradually and reached a low of ₹9,226.29 crore (0.89% of GSDP) in 2022–23, indicating temporary fiscal improvement. Fiscal deficit followed a similar pattern, generally remaining around 3–4 percent of GSDP, with a sharp rise to 4.56 percent in 2020–21 due to pandemic-related economic pressures. Primary deficit also fluctuated significantly, declining to a very low level in 2022–23 (0.04 percent of GSDP) but increasing again afterward. Meanwhile, the state’s GSDP shows consistent growth throughout the period, rising from ₹4,65,041 crore in 2013–14 to ₹14,27,145 crore in 2025–26. Overall, the data reflects rising economic size alongside periodic fiscal pressures, especially during crisis periods and recent years.
